GENETIC VARIABILITY IN WEEDY RICE BIOTYPES FOUND IN DIRECT-SEEDED RICE AREAS IN THE PHILIPPINES

چکیده
Weedy rice can severely impact production through yield reduction because of its competitive ability to reduce growth resources for cultivated rice. The characteristic weedy traits have made very challenging manage as they the same agro-morphological characteristics with study examined relationships between selected (Oryza sativa L.) cultivars, biotypes, and wild collected from different locations in Philippines, using simple sequence repeat markers. Cluster analysis, UPGMA, enabled genetic differentiation examination test materials. Subgroups 13 at least two biotypes formed 100% similarity based on post-harvest data, cultivars forming one subgroup. With polymorphic SSR markers, five major clusters range three (group I) 62 III). There was observed 15 subgroups ranging 10 biotypes. species-specific groupings. came province; likewise, both Iloilo Batangas; still another cultivar biotype Pangasinan. possible relatives (>65% similarity) include related Oryza minuta, O. meyeriana, 22 rufipogon. Concerning high (>80%) closely PSB Rc 82, NSIC 222, six 160, each 215, 152, 64, 18, 10, IR64 14.

The differential weed-competitive abilities of eight rice genotypes and the traits that may confer such attributes were investigated under partial weedy and weed-free conditions in naturally occurring weed flora in dry direct-seeded rice during the rainy seasons of 2011 and 2012 at Ludhiana, Punjab, India. The results showed genotypic differences in competitiveness against weeds. In weed-free p...

متن کاملCytoplasmic-genetic male sterility gene provides direct evidence for some hybrid rice recently evolving into weedy rice
Weedy rice infests paddy fields worldwide at an alarmingly increasing rate. There is substantial evidence indicating that many weedy rice forms originated from or are closely related to cultivated rice. There is suspicion that the outbreak of weedy rice in China may be related to widely grown hybrid rice due to its heterosis and the diversity of its progeny, but this notion remains unsupported ...
متن کاملWater, tillage and weed management options for wet seeded rice in the Philippines
The recent shift from transplanted to wet seeded rice (Oryza sativa L.) in South East Asia has resulted in major weed problems which require more labour and energy for their control. Field experiments were conducted during 1994±1996 on a Chromic Vertisol in central Luzon, the Philippines, to study the effect of water, tillage and herbicide levels on total water use, weed growth and yield of wet...
